Times Square shooting suspect arrested in Florida: sources

A man suspected of shooting three people in New York's Times Square, including a four-year-old girl, has been arrested in Florida, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the matter.

Farrakhan Muhammad was arrested Wednesday in a McDonald's parking lot in Starke, outside of Jacksonville, where he fled with his girlfriend, police said.

NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said that a preliminary investigation suggests Muhammad was aiming for his brother during a dispute when he injured two tourists and a 4-year-old girl from Brooklyn with a hail of gunfire around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Muhammad, 31, was listed Wednesday in an inmate database for the sheriff's office in Bradford County, Florida.

Blackpool Council, which owns the playing fields, said it was flying the town hall's flag at half-mast in tribute to Jordan. One of his best friends, CJ, and his father laid flowers and a football on the field. "He was very kind and caring.

According to New York City-based Spectrum NY-1, Muhammad was eating in his auto at the time he was found out and had only taken refuge in his vehicle (and the fast food chain's parking lot) because of an East Coast fuel shortage.

The arrest ends a four-day manhunt for Muhammad, who fled NY after allegedly opening fire in Times Square on Saturday afternoon during a purported dispute with his own brother. New York City police say three innocent bystanders including a 4-year-old girl who was toy shopping have been shot in Times Square and officers are looking for suspects.

Muhammad's brother told investigators that he was the target of shooting, but the motive is still under investigation. Muhammad and his girlfriend, who was also taken into custody but has not been charged, were spotted at a Walmart in North Carolina buying dog food for two dogs they were traveling with.

Police said that Muhammad and the woman he was with were CD vendors in New York City. Police officials said the girlfriend is a person of interest, but she's now not being charged and is not in police custody.

"While there is no joy today, there is justice", Shea said Wednesday.

Video from the incident shows police officer Alyssa Vogel rush to the injured 4-year-old, wrap a tourniquet around her leg to stop her from bleeding and sprint through the area to an awaiting ambulance.

Police released Muhammad's identity publicly on Twitter on Tuesday night.

Speaking with "Good Morning America," Vogel said her "motherly instincts" kicked in. All the victims are expected to recover.
