The potential strike would be equivalent to 880 million tons of trinitrotoluene (TNT) exploding at one time.
Astronomers at the University of Hawaii confirmed that the huge asteroid, named after "Apophis" (the god of chaos), accelerated in its path due to the irregular radiation, which acts as a small nudge. This process causes a slight change in their orbits. Apophis asteroid was discovered by Arizona Observatory on June 19, 2004.
Researchers monitored "Apophis" with the "Subaru" telescope earlier this year, and determined that its speed increased after analysis, known as the "Yarkovsky" effect. 29075 (1950 DA) has a 1 in 8,300 chance (0.012%) of hitting Earth in 2880, and Bennu, which is now being investigated by NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft, has a 1 in 2,700 (0.037%) chance of an Earth impact between the years 2175 and 2199.
Apophis, a 370 meter-sized asteroid, will make a close approach to Earth on Friday, April 13, 2029. "The new observations we obtained with the Subaru telescope earlier this year were good enough to reveal the Yarkovsky acceleration of Apophis, and they show that the asteroid is drifting away from a purely gravitational orbit by about 170 meters per year, which is enough to keep the 2068 impact scenario in play", the researchers said. "The warmer side of an asteroid pushes a little harder than the cooler side because the warmer side emits more light (at invisible infrared wavelengths), so there is a net non-gravitational force acting on the body", explained Tholen, a co-discoverer of Apophis.
Thus, the scientists found that this could be how Apophis may be Earth-bound over the coming decades, by 2068.
Astronomers said that before the effect happened an impact in 2068 was impossible, but they have since changed their tune.
Halo Infinite Project Director Departs After Delay
Chris has been with 343 since 2008, a year after it was founded, though it's worth noting that he is still employed by Microsoft . At this point, there is no denying that the development of Halo Infinite is not going according to the company's plans.
More observations should improve the estimates, including a better characterization of how the Yarkovsky effect is influencing Apophis's drift rate.
"Astronomers will know well before 2068 if there is any chance of an impact". NASA has described this asteroid as the third biggest threat.
Previously scientists have said it would come close-ish, as in 20 000 miles away, close than the moon.now they saying it could possibly hit us in the year 2068.
India Passes Eight Million Coronavirus Cases
Almost 1.1 million tests have been conducted per day, on average, during the past six weeks, added the statement. As many as 49,881 new COVID-19 cases were registered across the country over the past 24 hours.
"Could you kind of sit on it and hide it and control the global resource - kind of like diamonds are controlled corporately - and protect your market? This is wild speculation obviously".
Cristiano Ronaldo deletes sweary rant about COVID test
Officials later ruled that Juventus' Federico Bernardeschi fouled Barcelona striker Ansu Fati in the box in the 90th minute. Their next chance is December 12, when Juventus and Barcelona will play their return match.
