"The big story is the "unmasking and surveillance" of people that took place during the Obama Administration", Trump tweeted early on in his presidency.

Attorney General William Barr speaks about the coronavirus in the James Brady Press Briefing Room of the White House, Wednesday, April 1, 2020, in Washington.

The Post did not report whether that included investigations into leaks of the names of Americans who had been "unmasked" in classified reports - specifically, former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, whose name was leaked to the Post.

In a recent Fox Business interview, Trump went off on Barr on a lack of indictments over what he has publicly decried as the "Russia hoax". The Post noted that while not reporting the findings of probes that conclude without criminal charges is not unusual, a public report was considered more likely given the public nature of the investigation.

Barr and his predecessor Jeff Sessions "repeatedly turned to USA attorneys across the country to investigate matters of Republican concern, distressing current and former Justice Department officials, who fear that department leaders are repeatedly caving to Trump's pressure to benefit his allies and target those he perceives as political enemies", the Post reports. Bash also examined whether officials in the Obama administration gave information to the media.

It was not immediately clear why the department was holding back Bash's findings.

The Post reported that the Justice Department did not intend to release the results.

The Washington Post reported that John Bash, who departed the Department of Justice last week, concluded that none of the officials who requested the names of Americans being surveilled by the Obama administration did anything wrong. Durham's review has not finished.

Blitzer replied that he is "sensitive to them, because I see them on the street begging for food, begging for money". The interview continued combatively until Pelosi accused Blitzer of being disrespectful to Democrats.

President Donald Trump answered it was "too early" to determine if Attorney General Bill Barr (pictured) would be staying on if Trump wins a second term in November. A third meta-investigation conducted by U.S. Attorney John Durham is apparently ongoing, but Barr has told GOP senators that no findings will be released before the election, angering Trump. Among them were Biden, former White House chief of staff Denis McDonough, former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, former CIA director John Brennan, and former director of national intelligence James Clapper.

Paul said at the time that, "We sort of have the smoking gun because we now have the declassified document with Joe Biden's name on it".

Kupec soon appeared on Fox News and announced Bash's inquiry.
