Alan Arkin will not return to Netflix's The Kominsky Method for final season

Alan Arkin, who performs rep Norman Newlander to Michael Douglas' actor, is exiting "The Kominsky" methodology forward of its third and last season at Netflix, Selection has confirmed.

Arkin made the decision to leave the show some time ago, but that wasn't made clear in Season 2, sources told Variety. The upcoming third season will be addressing his departure in the storyline.

The second season dropped back in October as Sandy and Norman continued to navigate their later years in Los Angeles - including health problems for the former, and an old flame (Jane Seymour) reappearing for the latter.

Arkin was nominated for a 2020 Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, but lost to "Schitt's Creek" star and creator Daniel Levy. His character's disappearance will reportedly be addressed in the Netflix show's third season.

The series first season won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy.

The news follows another high-profile departure from a Lorre production earlier this month: Anna Faris announced she would be leaving Lorre's long-running sitcom, Mom, after seven seasons.
