Dealing with a series of protests that essentially brought parts of America to a standstill in 1968, it is hard to imagine that The Trial Of The Chicago 7 could be released at a more timely moment, considering that America is now home to some similarly impassioned protests.

Penned and directed by The West Wing and The Social Network scribe Aaron Sorkin, a stunning cast has been assembled to tell the story of the unrest which dogged the convention in Chicago. The Trial of the Chicago 7 sees him flex those skills even more as the trailer showcases a film that brings out the best in his emotive storytelling.

Paramount Pictures originally planned to premiere the movie in limited release on September 25, 2020, before going wide on October 16, 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the film's theatrical plans were shelved and the streaming giant stepped in to acquire global rights for the film.

Organizers Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Bobby Seale and Tom Hayden were charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot.

Watchmen actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also stars as Black Panther activist Bobby Seale.

The Chicago 7 were acquitted of conspiracy charges but some of the men were convicted of crossing state lines to incite a riot.

The movie will hit Netflix in October. Demonstrators threw bricks, police responded with tear gas and the center of Chicago was engulfed in flames.
