Cuomo criticizes Trump’s use of executive orders to address coronavirus crisis

Gov. Andrew Cuomo Calls Trump's Executive Orders 'Laughable'

New York Records Lowest One-Day Positive Tests Since Pandemic Began

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has dismissed the executive order signed by President Trump this weekend to extend unemployment benefits to help with pandemic recovery. It would give unemployed Americans $400 in additional payments a week, less than the $600 a week that expired July 31. "Take it from someone who understands the power of executive orders and has often considered an executive order when he can't get legislation".

Republicans have argued against providing direct aid to state governments, like in NY, saying those states had mismanaged their finances long before the pandemic, and that the federal government shouldn't be held responsible for those choices. He said the orders leave states to pay for 25% of unemployment benefits, which would come to $4 billion for NY.

Host Dana Bash said, "The New York governor is slamming the president's executive actions calling them laughable".

Andrew Cuomo announced all NY school districts can reopen for in-person classes in September.

"The concept of saying to states that you pay 25% of the unemployment insurance is just laughable", Cuomo said.

"C'mon Queens", Cuomo said. Of the 65,812 test results reported to New York State yesterday, 515, or 0.78 percent, were positive, marking the lowest single-day positive rate in New York since the pandemic started in March. As of Saturday, 420,860 people in NY have tested positive for the virus.

Tavares had his team's best chance of the opening 20 minutes, but his rushed shot at a wide-open net hit the post and stayed out. As I've said for the last couple weeks, Korpisalo is the worse goalie of the two, so that does bode better for us as well.

Seven New Yorkers died on Saturday, bringing the state's death toll to 25,202. 548 remain in the hospital with the virus, and the 131 New Yorkers in intensive care units is also the lowest number since the state began keeping count.

State police and the State Liquor Authority "are continuing to try to fill the vacuum left by local enforcement" in some parts of the state, he told reporters.
