Nancy Pelosi Says She Has No Confidence in Dr. Deborah Birx

Covid-19 US in 'new phase' of 'extraordinarily widespread' outbreak say White House experts

Nancy Pelosi Says She Has No Confidence in Dr. Deborah Birx

According to a report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 173,000 deaths in the United States is expected by August 22.

"I have tremendous respect for the speaker and I have tremendous respect for her long dedication to the American people and I think it was unfortunate that the New York Times wrote this article without speaking to me", she said.

In "State of the Union", Birx told CNN's Dana Bash that he has "tremendous respect" for Pelosi, but criticized a New York Times article last month that reported that he had painted an optimistic view of the pandemic of the White House during a critical period to gain control of the virus. "It is extraordinarily widespread" in rural as well as urban areas.

"To everybody who lives in a rural area, you are not immune or protected from this virus", she said.

Pelosi's comments came as Birx made an appearance of her own on cable television, and warned that widespread coronavirus infections in urban and rural America mark a "new phase" for the pandemic in the U.S., as she doubled down on calls to wear face masks and observe social distancing.

The United States has entered a "new phase" of the pandemic, with rural areas just as threatened as major cities. "We can not afford to pretend everything is fine and heading back to normal". We need all of the public to help us get us control of this virus.

She said they are providing governors with reports and recommendations tailored to specifically to local conditions.

At least four schools - Corinth High School in Mississippi, Greenfield Central Junior High School in IN, and two schools in Indiana's Greater Clark County Schools district - reported that a student had tested positive for the coronavirus during the first week back in session, forcing people who had been in contact with them to self-quarantine. The guidelines said children don't suffer much from coronavirus but suffer from being out of school.

She also says super-spreading events are the main concern, not super-spreading individuals.

The US notched 47,508 new cases on Sunday, a slight dip from the previous five days, which had all recorded more than 60,000 new infections.

Birx has said experts are noticing a pattern of younger Americans often bringing the infection back home without knowing it - as many go through the virus without any symptoms - and then pass it on to their parents who then spread it to grandparents or other older residents.
