Justice Department releases Trump's clemency order for Roger Stone

Toobin Stone commutation feels like 'Emperor's New Clothes'

Republican Graham plans to invite Mueller to testify on Russian probe

Though the committee's Republican majority had previously said it was time to move on, Mr Graham said the Democrats' repeated requests for Mueller to appear would now be granted.

Former GOP strategist Roger Stone thanked Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, along with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), on Monday night for helping him get his prison sentence commuted by President Donald Trump.

"In the Enron investigation, after the company's treasurer, Ben Glisan Jr., pleaded guilty but refused to cooperate, we put him before the grand jury", Weissman wrote."Instead of facing additional jail time, he came clean and became one of the government's most compelling witnesses".

"The Russia investigation was of paramount importance".

Stone was due to have reported to a federal prison in Georgia on Tuesday. Mueller himself defended the Stone prosecution in a Washington Post opinion piece in which he said Stone "remains a convicted felon, and rightly so".

Stone, a larger-than-life political character who embraced his reputation as a dirty trickster, was the sixth Trump aide or adviser to have been convicted of charges brought during Mueller's investigation.

But that buttoned-up approach created a void for others, including at the Justice Department, to place their own stamp on his work.

There was no immediate public response on the court docket to the judge's directive, but the Justice Department's pardon attorney office did post on its website a two-page order making clear that the clemency extended to both Stone's prison sentence and his supervised release.

"The jury ultimately convicted Stone of obstruction of a congressional investigation, five counts of making false statements to Congress and tampering with a witness". The report did, however, argue that Trump may have played a role in Russia's effort to interfere in the 2016 election. He lied about the existence of written communications with his intermediary. He also updated members of the Trump campaign about the timing of the WikiLeaks releases, something that he denied.

Stone, 67, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison after being convicted by a jury in Washington last year of lying under oath to lawmakers investigating Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

"This is the most disgusting experience you can have, because I see immediately why 99 percent of the people who choose to plead not guilty and go to trial lose when you're up against the horrific and deep-pocketed resources of the federal government and these really sadistic arrogant politically motivated prosecutors", Stone told "Hannity" in his first television interview since his commutation was announced Friday.
