DC Universe In Trouble? Stargirl Renewed Only For The CW

DC’s Stargirl Renewed For Season 2 With A Big Change

That means that starting with season two, the superhero series will no longer be available on DC Universe, where it now streams in addition to airing on The CW.

In The CW's official announcement (read below), it is noted: "The CW will become the exclusive in-season home to the breakout superhero hit next season, airing on The CW Television Network and streaming the next day on The CW's free, ad-supported streaming platforms".

Since then, Stargirl has averaged almost a million weekly viewers on The CW, in addition to however many were catching it on DC Universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The CW has made a decision to renew Geoff John's latest DC superhero series Stargirl for a second season. Titans and Young Justice appear to be the only DC Universe original shows that haven't jumped to other outlets yet.

In the meantime, season one of "DC's Stargirl" will continue on as usual, streaming first on Mondays on DC Universe and airing Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.

While Stargirl doesn't actually exist in The CW's established Arrowverse, it was previously established during the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event that the show exists on a parallel Earth in the DC multiverse.

We can probably guess that DC Universe will be folded into the new HBO Max streaming service; WarnerMedia just offered HBO Max to DC Universe subscribers for a few bucks more, so the writing seems to be on the wall. The CW, which aired new episodes of Stargirl a day after their debut on DC Universe, found success with the series, drawing a solid viewership each episode of its first season, of which it's now halfway through. Others have been canceled, while others, like Doom Patrol, are shared with HBO Max. With Stargirl, which debuted to mostly positive reviews, leaving DC Universe, this could be the death knell for the streaming platform.

Geoff Johns created the comic book series and serves as co-showrunner and executive producer along with Melissa Carter. DC Universe also recently ended their daily news program, DC Daily. Stargirl now debuts new episodes on DC Universe on Mondays.

Led by a character inspired by creator Geoff Johns' late sister, DC's Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore, a spry teen whose life in Los Angeles was upended when her widowed mom, Barbara (Amy Smart), remarried and in turn relocated them to super-quaint Blue Valley, Nebraska.
