Arrest warrant issued for Trump: Iran's Judiciary official

Donald Trump has officially been hit with an arrest warrant in Iran for ordering the drone strike that killed Qasem Soleimani in January.

"Thirty-six individuals who cooperated, collaborated, and participated in the assassination of Hajj Qassem, including political and military authorities of the US and other countries, have been identified", Alqasi-Mehr said, according to the domestic ISNA news outlet.

On January 3, a United States drone strike in Iraq killed Soleimani, leader of the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force.

Alqasimehr said Iran would continue to pursue the matter after Trump left office.

According to reports, Trump is one of 36 people who had warrants issued for their arrest.

Interpol "would not consider requests of this nature", it said.

Interpol later issued a statement saying its guidelines for notices forbids it from "any intervention or activities of a political" nature. Tehran attorney general Alqasi Mehr said that although 36 warrants were issued, Trump is at the top of the list.

Brian Hook, the USA pointman on Iran policy, scoffed at the Iranian request to Interpol as a "propaganda stunt".

Interpol doesn't get involved in political arrest requests. This has nothing to do with national security, worldwide peace or promoting stability.

"We see it for what it is".

US Special Envoy on Iran Brian Hook said the warrant was a propaganda stunt that "nobody takes seriously".

The Iranian government has been seething with anger over the January killing of Soleimani, who was in charge of the Quds Force until his death.

"General Soleimani was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region", the Pentagon said at the time, calling the strike "decisive defensive" action aimed at deterring future Iranian attacks.

While the attack on the western Iraqi base of Ain Al-Asad left no United States soldiers dead, dozens suffered brain trauma.
