An Action News Now reporter is at the Walmart Distribution Center in Red Bluff where she is reporting a heavy police presence.

Louis Lane, 31, was identified as the lone gunman in the shooting, according to the Tehama County Sheriff's Department. "But that was not recent - it's been a while, it's been a year and a half".

Investigators have not determined a motive in the shooting, other than his prior employment at the center, Johnston said.

The shooter's vehicle was reported to have smashed into the workers' entrance, known as the "asset protection doors", of the distribution center in a 3:08 p.m. call to dispatch.

Another witness told NBC that they had seen the vehicle drive into the building and burst into flames. Police added that he was using a semi-automatic rifle.

Walmart employee Martin Haro-Lozano, 45, was transported to the hospital by an on-duty deputy sheriff, but later died, officials said.

Red Bluff city manager Rick Crabtree told CNN that a auto rammed the facility around 3pm local time, causing a fire which he said was not significant. "None of the officers on scene were physically harmed during this incident and the condition of the suspect is unknown at the time of this release", the statement posted on Facebook read.

He said a second officer showed up as the gunman was still firing at the first officer.

Dispatchers told The Sacramento Bee that the gunman was in the middle of the parking lot and that he was shot in the chest by around 03:45 pm.

He said Lane was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
