2020 British and Australian Grands Prix canceled amid COVID-19 organizer says

The latest version of the 2020 calendar is now set to be announced on Monday, and should United Kingdom quarantine restrictions be lifted with the help of the government, back-to-back races at Silverstone could take place on August 2 and August 9.

Organisers of the Dutch Grand Prix have announced indefinitely that this year's running of the event will not take place and will be postponed until 2021.

However, increasingly positive noises from the United Kingdom government - including the news that prime minister Boris Johnson has told his ministers to help make the races happen - has given the organisation the confidence to reserve August 2 and 9 for the British races.

The race was due to take place at the Northamptonshire circuit from August 28-30, but has now been called off. The organisers had previously hoped to find an alternative date slot for the race in the revised calendar of this season's Formula 1.

The British and Australian 2020 Grand Prixs have been canceled due to coronavirus pandemic, MotoGP announced on Friday.

"We were completely ready for this race and we still are", said Dutch Grand Prix sports director Jan Lammers.

The Dutch Formula One Grand Prix, due to return to the calendar for the first time since 1985, has been postponed until next year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

'September, October and November, would see us race in Eurasia, Asia and the Americas, finishing the season in the Gulf in December with Bahrain before the traditional finale in Abu Dhabi, having completed between 15-18 races. However, at the moment this is not possible in Zandvoort and so we ask our fans to be patient. "We must now look forward to 2021 when Silverstone will once again host the fastest and most historic MotoGP race on the calendar and work hard to make it a truly exceptional event".

Dorna has yet to publish plans to begin the 2020 season but MotoGP has agreed a deal to host two rounds in Jerez in July, pending approval from the Spanish government.
