Coronavirus claimed 5,394 lives in India.

The Health Ministry said "We have been continuously discussing with the States about contact-tracing, identification of cases and treatment of the patients".

The Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Luv Agarwal on Tuesday (June 2, 2020) said that India's COVID-19 fatality rate is at 2.82%, where the senior citizens have constituted the 50% of the deaths.

Of the 230 deaths reported since Sunday morning, 89 are in Maharashtra, 57 in Delhi, 31 in Gujarat, 13 in Tamil Nadu, 12 in Uttar Pradesh, eight in West Bengal, seven in Madhya Pradesh, five in Telangana, three in Karnataka, two in Andhra Pradesh and one each in Bihar, Punjab and Rajasthan. She also said that India is far from reaching its outbreak peak.

Half of all the 5,394 COVID-19 linked deaths in India have occurred in 10 per cent of the population group.

Globally, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases has crossed six million, while the death toll is 376,210, as per Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Centre.

The US now accounts for the highest number of infections and fatalities in the world With 1,811,370 confirmed cases and 105,165 deaths.

The Health Ministry also added that elderly people of above 60 years age and those with co-morbidities are the most vulnerable.

The ministry also said that the testing capacity has increased in the country through 472 government and 204 private laboratories. Total number of deaths related to the novel coronavirus virus in the country is 4,367.

Recovery rate has similarly improved from 11.42 per cent on April 15 to 48.07 per cent today. Remdesivir is the first drug to show improvement in COVID-19 patients in formal clinical trials.
