Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms spoke tonight to denounce the violence in the city tonight during protests as people have taken to the streets over the killing of George Floyd.

Protesters reportedly smashed windows at the Hall of Fame and were seen looting the building before police officers arrived. Atlanta was one of the first cities on Friday to see its citizens stage riots that were punctuated by businesses being looted, buildings being set on fire, and clashes with law enforcement. Two people were arrested during overnight riots in which protesters set fires throughout downtown and smashed storefront windows, police said, but arrest details were immediately available. This is not a protest, This is not in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr.

"We support the peaceful protests that honor [Floyd's] memory but unfortunately deteriorated into chaos and disorder", Beaudin said.

"I do understand the anger, but I never thin there should be destruction of property or looting", he said.

This comes as violence has erupted in cities around the country in response to the death of George's Floyd in Minnesota on Monday.

The County Attorney said the action taken against Chauvin was "by far the fastest we've ever charged a police officer". According to police, he was told to step away from the auto , physically resisted officers, and was handcuffed.


Before Floyd's death, unrest in Louisville, Kentucky, has been a common occurrence due to the death of Breonna Taylor, who died in March when police conducted a "no-knock" raid on her apartment.

A protester in New York City was viciously thrown to the ground by a cop, and at least on NYC City Councilman is asking that assault charges be filed against him. We are better than this, better than this as a city, and better than this as a country. We are better than this as a country.

Last night, rapper and activist Killer Mike joined protesters and gave a speech at the Atlanta Mayor's Press Conference.

Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) announced early on Saturday he would deploy the national guard after protests in Atlanta over the death of George Floyd turned violent.
