SpaceX Falcon 9 to make history: 2 astronauts join International Space Station and Crew Dragon spacecraft could be visible over the UK shortly after take off

Nasa and SpaceX are preparing for the first manned launch to take off from American soil since 2011.

The disclosure comes at a time when SpaceX is working on launching its Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley on board.

History is being made today as NASA and SpaceX gear up to launch Americans into space from American soil and on American equipment for the first time in almost a decade.

Launch director Mike Taylor cited a number of unspecified "weather violations" for halting the mission after a day of showers and a tornado warning.

Bad weather forced officials to call off the launch just a few minutes before the scheduled lift-off at 20:30 GMT/UTC. The next attempt will be on Saturday at 2:22PM our time.

The mission, Demo-2, is the final step in certifying the capsule for longer missions, with plans to reach the Moon and Mars in coming years. "We understand that everybody's a little bummed out, ". That's just part of the deal. AdvertisementThe launch for Saturday was scheduled for 3.22 p.m. EDT (12.52 am Sunday India time).

They'll also hear from astronauts, engineers and other experts, including one commenting from the International Space Station.

"We are not going to launch today".

President Donald Trump, who flew in for the previous launch attempt, is expected to attend again.

A successful mission would achieve NASA's top priority, as articulated by agency chief Jim Bridenstine, of resuming launches of "American astronauts on American rockets from American soil". "The weather got us", said Bridenstine. The launch will also be available to stream on Hulu; YouTube TV; FuboTV and Sling TV.

On this trip, Pence talked excitedly about coming back for the rocket launch, while DeSantis hinted Trump could come too.

"We had to scrub due to the weather", the SpaceX team announced during its live broadcast.

Nasa has had to pay Russian Federation for use of its Soyuz rockets to take U.S. astronauts to space ever since the space shuttle program ended and the decision was taken to shift focus to commercial partners for missions in low Earth orbit.

The astronauts, meanwhile, could not immediately leave the capsule after the scrub, having instead to wait for propellants to be offloaded from the rocket so that crews could return to the pad.

SpaceX Launch Set for Second Attempt on Saturday
"The main rules of concern include flight through precipitation, the anvil cloud rule and the cumulus cloud rule", Jeras said. In the event that NASA and SpaceX are able to launch on Saturday or Sunday, a new launch day and window will be determined.
