Questions of whether or not Abt was actually behind the wheel of his sim rig came up when fellow drivers proposed he was actually absent from Saturday's race.
An investigation took place, which uncovered the driver switch with Hoerzing banned from competing in Formula E's professional sim racing series and Abt was disqualified, plus fined 10,000 euros.
Abt was suspended by Audi on Tuesday after it transpired that sim racer Lorenz Hoerzing took his place in the Berlin round of the Race at Home Challenge, confirming later that he will not race again for Audi.
One such individual was Abt's competitor Jean-Éric Vergne, with the French Techeetah Formula E team driver saying in the immediate aftermath of the weekend's online race, "Please ask Daniel Abt to put his Zoom [on] next time he's driving, because like Stoffel [Vandoorne - Belgian driver with Mercedes] said I'm pretty sure he wasn't in". "It's a simulation which does not have anything in common with real racing, which is what I'm normally doing", he said. But here (about 1:06:25 in the video below), Abt's face was obscured from view by a bit of metal rigging, for reasons that are now obvious.
United States impose travel restrictions on foreign nationals who've been in Brazil
Non-Americans who have been in Brazil in the two weeks before they request entry to the U.S. will be denied that entry. Spouses, parents, or children of USA citizens or legal residents may also enter the country.
Daniel Abt has issued an apology after he admitted to using a stand-in driver for Saturday's Formula E Race at Home Challenge.
Abt, Audi's first Formula E race victor, apparently finished third in Saturday's race on the virtual Berlin Tempelhof layout but rivals expressed doubts at the time about who was racing.
"Integrity, transparency and consistent compliance with applicable rules are top priorities for Audi - this applies to all activities the brand is involved in without exception".
Abt won a real world race on the same circuit in 2018 and has been successfully racing Formula-E since its creation in 2014.
Eight more Covid-19 deaths in Powys
Another 141 people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 13,556. Health chiefs across Britain today announced 209 more Covid-19 deaths, taking the official number of victims to 37,257.
Suspicion mounted of foul play following Mr Abt's second place qualification and third place finish results in round five.
"Of course, I accept the disqualification from the race. I'm out. See you never".
Abt explained, via translation of the video, the plan.
"It was never my intention to let another driver drive for me to get a result and keep quiet about it later on just to make me look better". "We made a huge mistake there. We wanted to document it and create a amusing story for the fans with it".
