2 shot at Arizona mall, 1 in custody

A Glendale police spokeswoman said Wednesday that the suspect was taken into custody safely. One is in critical condition and the other two are expected to recover, police said, according to 12News.

The police spokesperson said they are aware of a video posted to social media that purportedly shows the shooting, but can not confirm if that video is accurate.

They later tweeted that there were no further reports of active shooting and one suspect was in custody, adding, "We are shutting down the Westgate area to ensure everyone is safe".

Eliana Rivera, a sales associate at a pottery painting store, posted on Twitter that she and co-worker heard police running and helicopters overhead as they huddled in the back of the business, the Arizona Republic reported.

The woman accused of misconduct isn't identified either, but Tesfatsion notes that she is a "middle-aged Caucasian". A second man seated on the other side of the athlete in the same row is named as a second plaintiff, John Doe 2 .

In a press release Wednesday, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey offered his condolences to the victims of the shooting, as well as their families.

State Sen. Martín Quezada said he happened to be at the mall and witnessed the attack.

Police in a Phoenix suburb on Thursday identified a 20-year-old man as the suspect in a shooting at a recently reopened shopping and entertainment district that injured three people and sent panicked people running for cover.

The state senator Martin Quezada, a Democrat, wrote on Twitter that he saw a person "with an AR-15 shoot up Westgate". He said that there appeared to be multiple victims, and that he saw at least two. "I saw the shooter". Being told not to say anything else about details until I speak to police.

However, the person on camera identified himself as Armando Junior Hernandez and said in part, "I'm gonna be the shooter of Westgate".

The Glendale Police Department did not immediately respond to a call from Fox News.

The shooting took place five days after the state reopened its non-essential businesses following their closures because of the coronavirus social distancing guidelines.
