In the province's Monday COVID-19 briefing, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said that since Saturday, there have been 16 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths recorded in BC.

There are no new community outbreaks to report.

Currently, 45 people are in hospital for treatment of COVID-19, including 12 patients that require critical care.

The new cases bring the total number of viral infections to 2,446 people, including 325 who are still recovering from the disease, and 1975 people, or more than 80.7%, have recovered.

Of the dozens of seniors' homes that have had outbreaks since the virus started appearing, there remain 14 where there are active outbreaks.

During her update, Henry alluded to the beginning of Phase 2 in the province's reopening plan, calling it "an important milestone".

With B.C. officially launching the second phase of its restart plan, both Henry and Dix urged British Columbians to be thoughtful as they re-enter the community. "For employers, to customers and business owners, I want to reassure you that we would not be easing these restrictions if we did not feel that we could do so safely".

She said that any businesses that reopen must follow the guidelines from public health officials and WorkSafeBC.
