Restaurateur, ‘Top Chef Masters’ victor dies of complications from coronavirus



Chef Floyd Cardoz's business partner Yash Bhanage shared a heartbreaking message with PEOPLE following the news of the Top Chef Master alum's death on Wednesday. He was diagnosed COVID-19 positive after the chef observed certain symptoms of the virus and was admitted to a hospital in NY.

He was tested positive for Coronavirus after he reached New Jersey, where he has passed away recently. Hospitality had released a statement saying that as a precautionary measure, the Mumbai health department had been informed of the diagnosis.

The chef had attended the notable restaurant's fifth-anniversary celebrations on March 1 where about 200 people were present and had also attended the opening of a sweet shop in the Byculla area of Mumbai. Cardoz was born in Mumbai (then Bombay) and trained as a chef in his hometown and in Switzerland, according to NPR. "Floyd was a talented chef who competed and won "Top Chef Masters.' Cardoz - who appeared on Season 2 of David Chang's "Ugly Delicious" - died from complications of the virus at Hackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Medical Center in Glen Ridge.
