A United Kingdom average of 202.1mm fell last month, surpassing February 1990 when 193.4mm fell, the Met Office said.

This month's third named storm is bringing rain, gales and snow, prompting weather warnings stretching from Cornwall to the north of Scotland and across to Northern Ireland.

Èireann has this morning provided an update on Storm Jorge.

Rainfall data from the Met Office has shown that last month was the wettest February since records began.

Flood-hit areas have experienced further disruption after Storm Jorge battered the United Kingdom with strong winds and heavy downpours.

There are now eight flood warnings in place with 25 flood alerts in Wales.

In South Wales police declared a "critical incident" yesterday before the alert was later stood down.

'It's been a very wet and windy month across the whole of the UK. There are also some sunny spells and not the same persistent rain'.

More than 60 flood warnings remain in place across the country this weekend, leaving communities damaged by burst river banks fearing a second deluge in several days.

In more detail for today, a band of locally heavy rain accompanying a cold front across eastern England and NE Scotland will gradually clear east by late morning, then becoming drier and brighter for a time for many eastern areas, however, it won't take long for showers already across the southwest to get going across most western areas for the rest of the day.

In Snaith, where residents were evacuated from their homes earlier in the week, the Environment Agency has deployed a further four pumps in addition to the 18 already installed to reduce flooding in the town.

Storm Jorge is the fifth storm to hit the United Kingdom since December 6 past year and the third in February.
