President Trump has congratulated Attorney General William Barr for "taking charge" of the Roger Stone case.
"Bill Barr's America is not a place that anyone, including Trump voters, should want to go", he continued.
The former deputy attorney general under former President George H.W. Bush's administration is calling on Attorney General Bill Barr to resign, citing the events of the last week surrounding Roger Stone's sentencing reversal as the "worst" conduct thus far.
Barr said on Thursday in an interview with broadcaster ABC that Trump's criticism of those involved in the Stone case "make it impossible for me to do my job".
"It is unheard of for the Department's top leaders to overrule line prosecutors, who are following established policies, in order to give preferential treatment to a close associate of the President, as Attorney General Barr did in the Stone case", the letter states.
To Julie Zebrak, who's among the former DOJ officials who signed the letter, Barr's behavior shatters a cardinal norm that has been in place for decades: that the Justice Department's prosecutorial decisions should not be influenced by the White House.
China says new coronavirus cases slow
Wuhan has accounted for 71 per cent of the province's total cases and 77 per cent of deaths. But health commission spokesman Mi Feng said the campaign was beginning to show results.
Nunes also credited Barr for what he called trying to restore the public's trust in the Department of Justice.
"Those actions, and the damage they have done to the Department of Justice's reputation for integrity and the rule of law, require Mr. Barr to resign", the letter states. Though four federal prosecutors quit the Stone case in protest of Barr's interference, Trump subsequently praised the attorney general's decision.
In the days after the interview, Mr. Trump has been relatively muted.

The signatures were gathered by Protect Democracy, a nonprofit legal group that had also gathered signatures for a letter claiming Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation report presented enough evidence to charge Trump with obstruction of justice. At the close of his investigation, special counsel Robert Mueller declined to indicate whether Mr. Trump illegally obstructed justice, citing a decades-old department opinion that a sitting president can not be charged with a crime.
"Mr Barr's actions in doing the President's personal bidding unfortunately speak louder than his words", the officials wrote in a statement. A group of nine Democratic senators, including presidential candidates Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, also called for Barr's resignation in an open letter Friday.
Current DOJ staff, according to the former department officials, should "be prepared to report future abuses" to the Inspector General, the Office of Professional Responsibility and Congress. She worked in the northern OH office for 37 years, prosecuting worked on corruption cases for decades.
