Medtronic has recalled over 322,000 insulin pumps that could cause serious injury or death to users. Besides people with diabetes who use the pump, this may affect health care providers who treat people with diabetes using this pump. This can cause the under- or over-delivery of insulin if the cartridge is not securely locked in place.
In November, the medical device maker attempted to notify their customers about the faulty retainer, advising users to examine their pump to be sure the cartridges are firmly locking into the compartment, and also confirm the retainer ring is properly placed and undamaged. Hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia can occur in these instances.
According to the recall notice, Medtronic has heard 26,421 complaints, 2,175 injuries and one death. If the pump is dropped, check to see if the retainer ring is damaged and stop using the pump if it is. The resulting problems could lead to loss of consciousness, seizures or death.
New pattern of mysterious radio signals detected from space
Now, the evidence of a pattern in the signal adds to the question of what could cause these bursts to emit the way that they do. The first repeating fast radio burst traced, FRB 121102, linked back to a small dwarf galaxy containing stars and metals.
If you or anyone you know is still using the recalled Medtronic MiniMed insulin pump, the company asks they call 24-hour Medtronic Technical Support at 877-585-0166.
Check the retainer ring.
