The first UK-Africa Investment Summit in London comes less than two weeks before Britain formally ends its decades-long involvement in the European integration project.

The event was hosted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson who told the attending 16 African heads of state that the continent is the future of trade and business and that the United Kingdom was keen to play an important role to in developing Africa's potentials.

Johnson's government says it intends to continue resettling child migrants in Britain after the country leaves the European Union but argues that the issue does not belong in the European Union withdrawal bill, which sets out the terms of Britain's departure from the 28-nation bloc.

"The UK responds to the calls of African states when they make clear that they need mutually beneficial partnerships that go beyond aid and attract high-quality investments in order to drive growth and create jobs", said UK Ambassador to Cairo Sir Geoffrey Adams in a statement.
