MDH reports 8th flu death in Minnesota over 500 hospitalizations this season

State reports another death from the flu

The State Department of Health and Human Services released numbers today for activity from last week. That includes 187 cases in Onondaga County, 66 in Oswego, 21 in Cayuga, 43 in Madison, 10 in Cortland and 189 in Oneida counties.

The flu vaccine is available at local doctors' offices, retail pharmacies and the county's public health centers.

"These hospitalizations and deaths are a sober reminder that flu is not only unsafe; it can be deadly", said State Health Officer Jeanne Ayers. So far, more than 500 people have been hospitalized for the flu in Minnesota this season.

Children's Wisconsin will not allow visitors under the age of 12 at the Milwaukee hospital, Fox Valley hospital, and the Surgicenter for the remainder of flu season. The department said that version of the flu causes a disproportionate amount of severe illness in young children, teens and middle-aged adults.
