DOJ Inspector General report — RELEASED

It found that the FBI had an "authorized purpose" when it opened its investigation in July 2016 into whether the Trump campaign was coordinating with Russian Federation to tip the election in his favor.

Former FBI Director James Comey defended the FBI and ripped President Donald Trump's constant criticisms of the agency, detailing how anxious they had made his family - even convincing Comey's mother-in-law that he was going to jail.

It is worth pointing out that the Horowitz report demonstrates how easily the FBI can open an investigation with only the slightest "articulable factual basis", and that FBI and Justice Department guidelines make no requirement for higher standards for "allegations potentially impacting constitutionally protected activity, such as First Amendment rights".

Prior to the report being released, the President downplayed expectations, saying repeatedly he was more eager for the report from John Durham, the prosecutor hand-picked by Attorney-General William Barr to conduct a separate review of the Russian Federation probe. That investigation is criminal in nature, and Republicans may look to it to uncover wrongdoing that the inspector general wasn't examining. "That will be the big story!"

Instead Jordan said he's more concerned about House Democrats trying to remove Trump with "zero facts on their side" because they can't accept the 2016 election results, as well as what he apparently considers elitist attitudes of Democratic witnesses like Stanford law professor Pamela Karlan, who testified before the House Judiciary Committee last week.

The FISA warrant (and the warrant renewals) relied a great deal on the "dossier" of accusations against Trump and his campaign gathered by Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer who was gathering information on Donald Trump at the behest of the Hillary Clinton campaign. The prosecutor based in CT is looking into the origins of the federal probe into the 2016 campaign that later led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.

5 dead in New Zealand volcanic eruption
While 23 people have been taken from the island, there is no information regarding the whereabouts of the rest of the people. White Island is about 50km off the east coast of New Zealand's North Island and huge plumes were visible from the mainland.

The report was the product of an investigation by the office of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General (IG), known as Crossfire Hurricane, that addressed allegations of bias and impropriety on behalf of FBI agents investigating connections between the President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign and Russian Federation.

Barr then doubled down on his claim that the Trump campaign was "spied upon".

When the reporter asked him to clarify whether he meant there was political or confirmation bias, Barr demurred. The AP has not viewed a copy of the document.

We'd like to know who came up with the name "Crossfire Hurricane": That highly dramatic label sure suggests the team was expecting something big.

Wray told ABC News in a separate interview that he did not believe the Trump campaign had been unfairly targeted.

Not really. I mean, I suppose we could debate what "the heart" of a 435-page report is, but the BIG takeaway from Horowitz's report was that there was no "documentary or testimonial evidence that political bias or improper motivation influenced" the decision to open the counter-intelligence probe.

Eskom moves to stage 6 load shedding following problems at Medupi
While the latest bout of load-shedding came as a surprise to some people, many experts have been warning about this scenario. The schedule for 9 to 15 December shows the times and the blocks that will be affected.

Horowitz launched his inquiry in March 2018 following requests from the Justice Department and lawmakers, who argued that the investigation was a "witch hunt" to kneecap Trump's presidency.

But inspector general Michael Horowitz did find "serious performance failures" in the monitoring of Carter Page, a Trump aide linked with Moscow.

The report appeared even as Nadler's committee had convened another impeachment hearing to review the facts of the Ukraine affair. "I think that's the kind of label that's a disservice to the men and women who work at the Federal Bureau of Investigation who I think tackle their jobs with professionalism, with rigor, with objectivity, with courage", Wray said.

In pursuing the warrant, the Justice Department referred to Steele as "reliable" from previous dealings with him. He rejected characterizing the bureau's work as that of the "deep state" - a term Trump has used.

Abuses of power for political reasons are rife throughout the report.
