Riot Games To Pay Out $10 Million For Lawsuit Settlement

League of Legends: Riot Games Will Pay Every Female Employee Since 2014 With $10M Fund After Settling Lawsuit

Riot to pay out $10m as part of gender discrimination class action lawsuit settlement

The Los Angeles Times notes that around 1,000 women who worked there between November 2014 and until the date the settlement is finalized will be compensated.

The League of Legends developer will be paying every female employee that has worked under then in the last five years.

League of Legends developer Riot Games have been in hot legal waters for the past year, as a class action lawsuit was brought against them alleging that employees faced "gender discrimination in pay and promotion, sexual harassment, and retaliation against women".

Iran state TV says ‘rioters’ shot and killed in last month's protests
Amnesty International said on Monday it believes at least 208 people were killed in the protests and the crackdown that followed. Rainwater pools at a gas station attacked during protests over government-set gasoline prices in Tehran, Iran.

The $10 million fund has been agreed upon by both parties, though the court still needs to approve the decision in order for it to move ahead. This includes those who self-identify as female, and the payout will depend on how long they've worked there, with employees getting more than contractors.

Court documents have also illustrated changes Riot has made to combat the issues that caused the lawsuit, including reviewing its payments and hiring a diversity officer.

The lawsuit said that culture led to sexual harassment and misconduct.

Riot Games, for its part, refused to give in to the demands of its employees following their walkout in May, though it did pledge to allow new hires the option to waive the forced arbitration clause for sexual harassment and assault "once current litigation was resolved".

"We are pleased to have a proposed agreement to completely resolve the class action lawsuit", Riot said in a statement. The company has worked hard over the previous year to address the culture of sexism, creating a new recruitment, hiring and promotion structure, bringing in third-party culture consusltants and creating a new diversity director role, as well as adding women in leadership roles. "This shows that Riot is serious about changing the culture at the company". However, several employees believe numerous improvements are undercut by the fact that some senior male employees accused of misconduct are still in the company.

I'm not at all convinced this counts, although when D'Anastasio spoke to 14 Riot Employees in August, she reported that they were all optimistic about the company's future.
