Jose Mourinho has been appointed the new manager of English football club Tottenham Hotspur, following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday.

Jose Mourinho has landed the Spurs job, after 11 months out of work, but the former Chelsea boss claimed just four years ago his love for the Blues meant he couldn't work for their London rivals. The video included a previous quote from Mourinho about West Ham's style of play and then footage of Manchester United's defeat in east London last season.

Tottenham announced Mourinho would be their new manager on a contract running until the end of the 2022-23 season.

"I have the utmost admiration for the manner in which he dealt with the hard times away from a home ground whilst we built the new stadium and for the warmth and positivity he brought to us".

A very special article: Jose Mourinho is not Chelsea’s to own
Mourinho won the UEFA Champions League with both FC Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010. This may be a risk for Mourinho , but it is one he needs to take.

"I couldn't be happier and look forward to the challenge", he said.

Levy described Mourinho as "one of the most successful managers in football".

It followed a run of poor results that see Tottenham lie 14th in the Premier League table.

The Mirror are reporting that Mourinho is set to earn a staggering £15million-a-year at Spurs, which is around double the salary earned by Pochettino during his time at Spurs.

Sweden drops probe in Julian Assange 'rape' case
Two months earlier, Assange was evicted from the Ecuador Embassy in London where he had been holed up for almost seven years. He was immediately arrested and is now serving a 50-week sentence in Britain for jumping bail in 2012.

Mourinho has won Champions League titles with Porto and Inter Milan.

The reason behind this is that Spurs 'must make big repayments on their new stadium' and with the club sat in 14th, there are fears they could miss out on Champions League revenue. He also has experience of the Premier League through two spells with Chelsea, where he won the title three times. If Mourinho can improve Spurs in a similar way, the match against United could turn out to be crucial in deciding who finishes in the European places this season.

It seems unthinkable for him to have taken the job without some sort of assurances from chairman Daniel Levy that there will be money to spend - starting in the January transfer window - and he has also vowed to use players from the academy.
