Capitals' Hathaway suspended three games for spitting incident

Garnet Hathaway's suspension and Nicklas Backstrom's injury force Capitals to make moves

Washington Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway was suspended without pay for three games for spitting on an opponent, the National Hockey League announced Wednesday. He will miss Washington's games against the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers.

The Players' Emergency Assistance Fund will receive the amount of salary Hathaway is forfeiting: $24,193.53.
