Nicolas Cage to star as himself in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

The film isn't entirely unlike Cage's role in 2002's Adaptation either - in which he played both the film's screenwriter, Charlie Kaufman, and Kaufman's fictional identical twin brother - and 2014's Birdman, which featured Michael Keaton as a former movie star known for playing a superhero, just as he himself once played Batman and then took on lesser-known roles. Deadline reports that the 55-year-old Academy Award-winning actor will play a version of himself in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, with Lionsgate said to be the studio now trying to close the deal on the film. Yeah, this one might be hard to beat.

The meta film, titled The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, follows Nicholas Cage on his desperate goal to star in Quentin Tarantino's next movie.

Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten, creators of the paranormal-investigators TV comedy Ghosted, are behind the script, with Gormican lined up to direct.

As described by THR, this will be the plot of the film...

As described by the outlet, the reportedly "meta" script - which was co-written by Kevin Etten and director Tom Gormican (That Awkward Moment) - follows a struggling Cage, 58, in a freaky plot where he's trying his best to land a role in a new Quentin Tarantino flick as his career and notoriety recede.

Saudi Aramco to sell small stake on Riyadh exchange
Saudi Aramco beat American behemoths including Apple Inc. and Exxon Mobil Corp in terms of earnings. Aramco booked a $111.1 billion net profit in 2018, almost double Apple's.

According to sources, the script was shown to Cage accompanied with a letter that Gormican wrote, pleading his case and saying how the piece was a love letter to the actor, not something that made fun of him. Throughout the film, Cage will be badgered by another version of himself from the 1990's - played also by him - that will mock and debase him for lowering himself to new lows by starring in too many bad movies.

Along the way, Cage gets mixed up with a Mexican cartel lord, works for the Central Intelligence Agency, is abused by a 1990's version of himself-also played by Cage-for becoming a hack, and tries to work things out with his teenage daughter.

The Hollywood Reporter points out that The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will pay homage to some of Cage's former films like Leaving Las Vegas, Face-Off, and Gone in 60 Seconds.
