Arizona congressman’s tweets raise Epstein conspiracy theory

Republican Paul Gosar, a staunch conservative from Arizona, issued a series of 23 tweets over a roughly eight-hour period railing against the Democrats' impeachment investigation of Donald Trump. But savvy observers pointed out a possible different meaning. The Daily Wire and other outlets took notice that as readers scrolled down Gosar's profile, the first letters of each tweet spelled: "Epstein didn't kill himself".

The morbid acrostic, coincidental or not, reflects a repeated conspiracy theory-turned-meme over the death of the financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Epstein's jail cell death in August was quickly declared a suicide, but recent expert testimony has challenged that narrative. He was awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges after reports of a sex ring involving underage girls.

Months after his death, the hashtags #EpsteinSuicideCoverUp and #EpsteinDidNotKillHimself began trending on Twitter after former Navy Seal Mike Ritland appeared on Fox News' Watters World and told host Jesse Watters "Epstein didn't kill himself". Gosar added in a follow-up tweet on his personal Twitter account following social media's discovery.

The Associated Press asked Gosar spokesman Ben Goldey whether the congressman sent the tweets himself. He did not answer the question but said the tweets were substantive.

Gosar took it to the next level in a string of impeachment-related tweets on Wednesday.

It is unclear whether Gosar believes the hidden Epstein message or tweeted it to indicate his views that the impeachment proceedings against Trump are grounded on conspiracy theories.
