Ukraine FM says USA envoy did not link Biden probe to aid

Prystaiko: Sondland did not tell me any link between Burisma probe, military aid to Ukraine

Ukraine Foreign Minister Says US Aid and Biden Investigations Were ‘Never’ Linked

U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland will return to Capitol Hill next week to testify once more about his dealings with Ukraine and President Donald Trump.

Reuters, citing Interfax Ukraine, said Prystaiko stated that, "Ambassador Sondland did not tell us, and certainly did not tell me, about a connection between the assistance and the investigations". 'You should ask him. The story quoted the foreign minister, saying "I have never seen a direct link between investigations and security assistance".

Sondland told Ukrainian officials in Washington on July 10 that a summit between Zelensky and Trump was conditional on the desired investigations into Biden and his son Hunter Biden, who served on the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma, witnesses told the inquiry.

She said Sondland was meeting with foreign officials "that we had derogatory information on that he shouldn't have been meeting with" or he was giving out his phone number or texting foreign officials. Well, that's what the impeachment inquiry is all about.

Congress to help a U.S. ally combat Russia-backed separatists in the eastern part of the country, was later provided to Ukraine. Even before the public hearings began, Trump fundraisers reported seeing a surge in donations in response to impeachment talk.

Trump tweeted after a political rally in Louisiana that 'the fake impeachment inquiry is now dead!'

Trump was heard asking Sondland on the call about "the investigations". "But there was no clear connection between these events", the minister said. They've already failed, as far as I'm concerned'. It now appears a second person - a U.S. Embassy staffer - also overheard the president's call with Sondland.

Acting U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent answered questions for several hours from Democrats and Republicans Wednesday in the first of several public impeachment hearings that are scheduled.

The inquiry stemmed from a whistle-blower revealing in September the nature of the president's talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, who took office in May. He said Trump indicated there was no quid quo pro, but later submitted updated answers to his testimony that said he believes the Trump administration held back the military aid to pressure Ukraine into launching the Biden probe. Following the call with President Trump, the member of my staff asked Ambassador Sondland what President Trump thought about Ukraine.

Democratic lawmakers continue to argue that there was in fact a "quid-pro-quo" agreement between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after an anonymous whistleblower came forward with the allegation. Taylor alleged that a staffer told him he overheard Sondland speaking to President Trump on July 26.

According to the AP, a second embassy staffer, Syria's Jayanti, who was sitting at the table with Sondland, also overheard the call.

Taylor further testified that Sondland acknowledged that Trump "cares more about the investigations of Biden, which [Rudy] Giuliani was pressing for".
