King is the latest Republican congressman to announce that their name would not be on the upcoming election's ballot.

That makes King the 20th Republican in the House to say they won't run for reelection next year, as opposed to only eight Democrats who've declined to run.

"Peter King stood head & shoulders above everyone else", Schumer wrote.

In 2007, King controversially claimed there were "too many mosques in this country" during a Politico interview.

Sportsnet fires Don Cherry over controversial comments about immigrants
Most of us prefer to watch our Canadiens games on RDS in part because we don't enjoy Cherry's pugilistic view of hockey and life. Cherry faced immediate criticism for the remark. "We're proud of diverse cultural heritage and we'll always stand up for it".

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) announced on Facebook that he would be retiring after serving his Long Island district for almost 30 years, but not before he votes against Trump's impeachment. "The police were trying to bring him down as quickly as possible", King said on CNN. Police fired the officer this past August. "If he had not had asthma and a heart condition and was so obese, nearly definitely he would not have died".

He also questioned whether Garner couldn't breathe, saying, "the fact of the matter is, if you can't breathe, you can't talk". "This was not an easy decision".

King, who represents New York's 2nd district, said his decision to end public service after 14 terms and 28 years was heavily influence by his family. "But there is a season for everything and Rosemary and I decided that, especially since we are both in good health, it is time to have the flexibility to spend more time with our children and grandchildren", King, 75, said in a statement, referring to his wife.

Omar, who earlier this year became one of the first Muslim women sworn into Congress, specifically called out controversial statements King made about the Muslim community and Eric Garner during his long tenure in Congress.

In 2011, King was chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and held hearings focused on the radicalization of Muslims in the United States. He said he will continue to be "active politically".

"In the coming weeks and during the next year I intend to vote against President Trump's impeachment and will support the President's bid for re-election", King said.

The Cook Political Report, a nonpartisan group that tracks US elections, had said the seat was likely to remain in Republican control, but King's retirement could put it in play next year.

"He's fiercely loved America, Long Island, and his Irish heritage and left a lasting mark on all 3", he said on Twitter.

Cold Blast: Hour-By-Hour Monday
Can we handle a half an inch? By the evening rush hour, snow will still be falling and temperatures will cool below 32°. While an area of low pressure will generate snow for the Monday morning commute, it's not likely to be much initially.

King won the 2016 election with 62 percent of the vote, the 2014 election with about 65 percent of the vote, and the 2012 election with about 53 percent of the vote.
