A cool week ahead tracking rain snow potential

Temperatures start in the low to mid 30s and only reach the upper 40s for highs, even with some afternoon sunshine.

After a relatively mild start this morning, a cold front blasted through the area during the midday hours bringing powerful north winds and sharply dropping temperatures.

The Doppler radar and satellite imagery shows generally dry conditions across much of Montana, just a few high level clouds in north-central Montana working their way down to the south-central part of the state. Temperatures will return to the mid and upper 50s for Sunday under partly to mostly sunny skies.

Rain will begin turning into snow between 11 a.m. and 12 temperatures drop.

The front will advance quickly through the northern Plains and upper Midwest Sunday, into the southern Plains and Ohio Valley Monday, then through most of the East Coast and Deep South by Tuesday.

While this type of weather might be expected a couple of times in the dead of winter, the average daytime temperature in Edmonton at this time of year is around 1°C. It's certainly something we'll consider in our analysis of this storm system. There will be a big blast of cold air coming behind it.
