Trump opposes public hearings during impeachment inquiry

Jennifer Williams arrives on Capitol Hill for the closed-door hearing

Mike Pence aide claimed that Trump's “perfect” July 25 call was unusual: report

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney has been subpoenaed to appear Friday morning before the House Intelligence Committee as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, an official working on the inquiry told CNN.

Democrats have been releasing transcripts of the closed-door interviews as they prepare for the public hearings.

Jennifer Williams, a career foreign service officer and special adviser to Pence for Europe and Russian Federation, was testifying in a closed-door hearing in front of members of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight committees after receiving a subpoena to compel her testimony.

The House committees conducting the impeachment inquiry have released the testimony of President Trump's former Russian Federation adviser, Fiona Hill, who testified on October 14.

Mulvaney's request for the court to solve his dilemma comes as he has been clashing with one of the one of the president's other most senior aides, White House Counsel Pat Cipollone, over who should direct the president's response to the House impeachment inquiry, according to people familiar with the matter.

House investigators have released the deposition of Fiona Hill, who until earlier this year served as the top Russian Federation policy specialist on the national security council. Trump said Saturday he has no problem making details of that call public. He said he now recalls relaying a kind of quid pro quo message to Ukraine, immediately following a meeting between Zelensky and Vice President Mike Pence.

"This is a third party who was not privy to the call and did not have firsthand information", said Ivanka Trump, who is wrapping up a three-day visit to Morocco.

Mulvaney and other White House officials have said they are immune to congressional subpoenas - a claim now being examined by federal courts. "This is a hoax", Trump said in a statement to the media on Friday before leaving on a trip to Georgia.
