Paris: Police Clear Over 1,600 People from Illegal Migrant Squatter Camps

Around 1,600 irregular migrants living outside in French capital Paris were moved to sports halls in an operation by French police, according to local media reports on Thursday.

The area had already been evacuated from the rocky embankment along the Paris ring road last June, but aid groups say around 100 people are still living there, often attracting migrants from the nearby camps.

"There are also plans to tighten rules for asylum seekers". The prefect of police, Didier Lallement, signed the eviction order citing, among others, to a health situation "strongly degraded" and the abundance of health problems among the migrants there are installed, the risks of accidents in an area of heavy traffic due to its proximity to the main access routes to the capital, and the increase in "acts of crime".

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said it was the 59th operation to clear migrant camps since 2015, when hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war and misery in Asia, the Middle East and Africa headed for Europe.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner had warned on Wednesday that the several camps housing up to 3,000 migrants in north-eastern Paris would be evacuated "before the end of the year".

But activists say that numerous migrants have nowhere else to go.

A day later, on October 21, the officials released an updated figure showing a sudden surge in Morales' vote percentage. Amid shouts of "murderess, murderess" masked men dragged her through the streets barefoot to the bridge.


Dominique Versini, the lieutenant of the deputy mayor responsible for refugees, said for his part that numerous migrants "evaporated by Paris" before the announcement of the imminence of the dismantling of the camp.
