Following sexual assault allegation, Carroll files suit against Trump

An advice columnist who has accused President Donald Trump of raping her in a New York City department store dressing room in the 1990s has sued him, saying he defamed her by calling her a liar whom he had never even met.

In his first statement denying the claims, Carroll states that Trump: 'falsely stated that he did not rape Carroll; falsely stated that he had never met Carroll; falsely implied and affirmatively intended to imply that he had no idea who Carroll was; falsely implied and affirmatively intended to imply that Carroll had invented the rape accusation as a ploy for increased book sales; falsely implied and affirmatively intended to imply that Carroll invented the rape accusation to carry out a political agenda; falsely implied and affirmatively intended to imply that Carroll invented the rape accusation as part of a conspiracy with the Democratic Party'.

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.

E Jean Carroll's lawsuit, filed Monday in NY, said Trump "smeared her integrity, honesty and dignity - all in the national press" when he responded to her allegations, first broached in a NY magazine article this past June.

In an emailed statement, Carroll said that her legal action wasn't just about her. Zervos sued the president after he accused her and other women of lying for alleging that he engaged in sexual misconduct. Carroll alleges that in 1995 or 1996 she ran into Trump in the Bergdorf Goodman store.

"I am filing this on behalf of every woman who has ever been harassed, assaulted, silenced, or spoken up only to be shamed, fired, ridiculed and belittled", she tweeted Monday.

Carroll claims that as a result of Trump's statements she suffered emotional pain, as well as reputational and professional harm. She pushed him away, but he pinned her against the wall, pulled down her tights and raped her for up to three minutes, the suit said.
