News of Hill's resignation comes after the House Committee on Ethics announced Wednesday it was opening an investigation into allegations Hill engaged in an improper relationship with a congressional staffer in possible violation of House rules which were changed previous year to ban relationships between members and their staff.

"It is with a broken heart that today I announce my resignation from Congress", she wrote in a statement released Sunday, adding that her resignation is effective Friday.

Rep. Katie Hill has announced she will be resigning from Congress amid an ethics investigation into accusations of improper relationships with a Congressional staffer and a campaign aide and the leak of nude photos that has led to a possible criminal revenge porn investigation.

Hill, who is openly bisexual, has admitted to and apologized for an "inappropriate" relationship with a female campaign staffer. Hill's husband, Kenneth Heslep, filed for divorce in July, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records.

Hill blamed her husband and said she was pursuing legal options after media outlets published intimate photos that purported to be of the lawmaker.

He would later cosponsor the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and also push for a federal holiday recognizing the contributions of Dr. Soon after being elected to Congress, Conyers' leadership at home - in the segregated streets of Detroit - would be tested.

Hill represents the 25th Congressional district, which sprawls across parts of northern Los Angeles County and Ventura County, taking in Palmdale, Lancaster, Simi Valley and Santa Clarita.

Kelly helped raise more than $8million for Hill's 2018 campaigns. The California Democrat tweeted a copy of her official statement on Sunday night.

Politico first reported that Hill is set to resign by the end of the week amid a House Ethics probe into the allegations, which Hill had denied.

Hill's campaign had raised a healthy $2.2 million so far this year, putting her on track for a strong reelection bid. Hill writes in her letter.

Despite her freshman status, she was named to be a member of the House Oversight Committee, one of the panels investigating President Donald Trump's conduct in office and leading the impeachment process. She also assumed a leadership role in the freshman class of House Democrats and joined the whip team, which is responsible for counting votes.

Hill, 32, was accused by her estranged husband, Kenny Heslep, of having an ongoing affair with her current Congressional aide, Graham Kelly, who is her legislative director.

Hill, celebrated as a face of millennial change in Congress, said in her statement that she had no choice but to step down.

Hill swept into Congress as part of the wave that flipped the House majority to the Democratic Party.

"Excited to get to work for sure", Hill said, and then disappeared past the doors reserved for members of Congress.

Hill also said she had contacted U.S. Capitol Police after intimate photos of her and another person were published by the RedState website. A spokeswoman for her office said the date remains "uncertain".

In that apology she said that she became involved with the female staffer "during the final tumultuous years of my abusive marriage".
