He left no doubt that he would be ready for Thursday's first round when the USA -based PGA Tour plays its first official-money event in Japan.

Woods, wearing a dark blue sleeveless sweater, spoke at Narashino Country Club before a Monday afternoon Japan Skins made-for-TV exhibition with Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama and Jason Day.

"I need a little bit more rest", Woods said with a smile, referring to a hectic schedule since his arrival in Japan that included multiple appearances around Tokyo on Sunday.

Before Woods could reply, Day supplied the rejoinder. Woodland claimed one of his five pro victories in Asia, teaming with Matt Kuchar to win the 2011 World Cup in China. "I found that out today when he told me".

While that will be fun and games, it will be serious business come Thursday.

Jason Day and Tiger Woods share a joke during the Japanese Skins game.

Woods said that after the surgery, he has improved the possibilities to justify himself for the December event. Woods spent the day smiling and needling McIlroy, Matsuyama and Day. One or two multimillionaires don't much care if a putt for $10,000 goes in.

"I hit in between the greens, so it looked kind of like I kind of didn't know what I was doing", he said. On the seventh hole, the group was joined by four rugby players in a scramble format. The 100-kilogram (220-pound) Habana nearly crushed Mastuyama as he screamed: "That's my partner".

Day then ran away with the competition thanks to a $100,000 birdie under the lights on the 18th.
