The Jefferson County Coroner's Office on Wednesday was still trying to confirm the identity but said they had no reason to believe it was anyone other than Kamille.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey posted on Twitter about the girl's death. Investigators know of no link between the suspects and the girl or her family, Smith said. "They saw an opportunity to take a young child and they did".

Within 24 hours of Kamille's abduction, police were confident that Stallworth and Brown were responsible for the crime.

"The heart of our state is broken", the governor wrote, "but our resolve must be to do everything we can to avoid this tragedy from happening to another family. So tonight, Birmingham, we mourn as one". "Your cries for help have not gone unanswered, and they will not go unanswered", he added. The grainy shows what appears to be two children playing outside the complex. The video ends just after the two children follow the second man out of view of the camera. "Our prayers are with Kamille's family and all who have been touched by this nightmare".
