Galaxy S10 Fingerprint Sensor Reportedly Thwarted By Cheap Screen Protector

Any fingerprint unlocks Galaxy S10, Samsung warns

Samsung promises to fix Galaxy S10 fingerprint unlock bug

The world's biggest smartphone maker has touted the Galaxy S10's in-display fingerprint sensor as "revolutionary".

As The Sun reported earlier this week, a British woman bought a cheap gel-based screen protector off eBay, and she registered the fingerprint of her right hand. However, the company has now said that it will release a software update to tackle the issue.

Now, Samsung has issued a statement, saying that the phones' ultrasonic fingerprint scanners were recognizing three-dimensional patterns appearing on some "silicone screen protecting cases" as fingerprints belonging to the device owner.

The 23 year old's model facial features and face shape came closest to the ancient Greeks' idea of perfection. Earlier this week, Bella Hadid quelled some rumors of her and ex-boyfriend the Weeknd getting back together.

Samsung didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Samsung's spokesperson in Seoul said the company will soon roll out a fix, but did not say what caused the recognition problem.

There have been a fair number of previous reports regarding a possible Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. Plastic or silicon screen protectors can stymie it, so Samsung has been recommending that buyers used approved protective devices. She discovered that any fingerprint could unlock the phone, including her husband's.

But Security Minister Alfonso Durazo has told Reuters that he was later released, saying the decision was taken to protect lives. Durazo said that a group of officers had been attacked on Thursday while on a patrol mission in one of the city's districts.

And when the screen protector was added to another relative's phone, the same thing happened.

Samsung has known for some time that screen protectors could interfere with the ultrasonic fingerprint reader.

There's no word on how quickly Samsung will push out the fix but expect more news soon. The in-screen scanner uses ultrasound to detect the ridges of users' fingers and match it to stored data.
