A high-profile Trump supporter thought it was a joke when she learned former SC congressman Trey Gowdy was joining the Trump legal team.

Gowdy joined a string of GOP committee chairmen who made a decision to leave Congress as the GOP faced a challenging 2018 midterm election which resulted in the Democrats taking back the House of Representatives.

Gowdy will be joining a team of outside lawyers representing President Trump as he faces an impeachment inquiry, according to a statement sent to news outlets by Trump's personal lawyer Jay Sekulow.
