Volvo XC40 is first to get Android-powered infotainment system

The Volvo XC40 Electric is set to become the one of the first production cars to feature an infotainment system powered by the Android Automotive operating system (OS). The new infotainment system promises unprecedented personalization, improved levels of intuitiveness, and new embedded Google technologies and services. The OS is a result of Volvo's parent company Geely's partnership with Google announced in May 2017, which makes the Swedish carmaker the first company to team with the tech giant for a completely integrated infotainment system inclusive of Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play Store built-in.

Volvo said the Google Maps data streams will also be integrated with new self-driving features to be introduced on the electric XC40. This ensures that the system keeps evolving and improving over time, instead of being the newest when it first left the facility. The Google Assistant allows customers to get things done using just their voice for in-car functions such as controlling temperature, setting a destination, playing their favourite music and podcasts on apps like Spotify, and keeping in touch by for example sending messages.
