When firefighters arrived, the building exploded, according to police.

One firefighter died and six more were injured when a propane explosion destroyed the office of a non-profit organization in ME on Monday morning.

Landry says that he doesn't know specifics of their injuries but that they were taken to hospitals with better-equipped trauma centers. It caused major traffic as emergency responders arrived at the scene.

Farmington is located about 70 miles north of Portland, the state's largest city.

According to McCausland, the body of the firefighter killed in the explosion will be removed from the rubble some time mid- to late-afternoon and transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta via Route 2 and Route 27.

And, she wrote, "I am praying for the firefighters and their families as well as the civilians who were hurt in today's explosion".

The Franklin County Sheriff's Department in ME says firefighters are responding to a building explosion that rocked the town of Farmington and a county sheriff says there are injuries.

The explosion at 8:30 a.m. came as firefighters responded to the Farmington building occupied by LEAP, a nonprofit that assists people with disabilities, on reports of a propane gas smell.

The explosion was reported at LEAP, described on its website as "a private nonprofit organization devoted to enabling individuals with developmental, cognitive and intellectual disabilities". Paper, insulation and building debris rained on the area.
