Former NFL player fatally shot at his grandmother's house in Richmond

Former Bengals cornerback Terrell Roberts was shot to death Wednesday while visiting his grandmother in Richmond, California, north of Oakland, his family told CBS San Francisco. Police didn't specify whose home it was, or what place in the house Roberts was shot. Witnesses described the suspect to officers as a bald black male with a short beard.

Police found Roberts dead in the backyard with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Roberts then stumbled into the backyard and collapsed, which is where first responders located him on Wednesday, according to Melgoza. The Bay Area native and Oregon State product tallied one career interception and 29 tackles in 23 appearances.

Roberts's former teammates spoke out on social media after the shooting.

"Man am exhausted of waking up everyday to bad news", retired defensive tackle Shaun Smith tweeted. Investigators believe that Roberts and the unidentified man got into an altercation in the garage, leading to the former National Football League player getting shot.

The last time he saw a start was with the Broncos in 2017, where he had 10 starts in 11 games that season. Running back Le'Veon Bell is dealing with a shoulder injury, which Gase said could just be soreness.


Current Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith was also a college teammate of Roberts's.
