New York officials warn people to stop vaping amid rising illnesses

Idaho health officials are asking health care providers to be alert for signs of respiratory illness in patients who use vaping products, and to report any cases to public health officials.

With more and more of the youth picking up on e-cigarettes, the Trump administration is taking on the vaping crisis by putting a ban on non-tobacco flavored products. Its CEO, Gary Reedy, released a statement that said his organization will "advocate for a final proposal that includes all flavored tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, cigars, and menthol cigarettes and addresses nicotine addiction to maximize the impact on public health". In the wake of the recent vaping crisis, Trump's administration announced their plans to put a ban on flavored electronic cigarettes.

The first lady, whose "Be Best" platform focuses in part on children's health and combating addiction, has spoken out a few times over her concerns over e-cigarette use by children. "We will not stand idly by as these products become an on-ramp to combustible cigarettes or nicotine addiction for a generation of youth".

The president has not made any decisions regarding actions on e-cigarettes, sources said.

The proposed ban comes as cases of vaping-related lung illnesses have surged in recent weeks.

Numerous 450 reported cases are young people, with an average age of 19. The severity of the cases vary, but six people have died. Tobacco flavored versions will remain on the market.
