Steve Smith has been ruled out of the remaining of the second Ashes Test at Lord's due to a concussion which he suffered after a Jofra Archer delivery hit him on the neck during the fourth day's play on Saturday.

Another concussion test was conducted before the fifth day's play as per CA protocol, which "demonstrated some deterioration from his testing which is consistent with the emergence of the symptoms he was reporting".

The third test starts Thursday in Leeds, making Smith a doubtful starter.

Following Hughes' tragic death, changes were made to further protect batsmen, with stem guards designed and made optional for players to wear on their helmets.

The helmet attachments are recommended under Cricket Australia's concussion and head trauma policy but not mandatory, although they are expected to become compulsory next year.

Shane Warne suggested booing Smith in other instances was one thing but to add insult to injury was not on.

"It's certainly an area of concern, concussion, and I want to be 100% fit".

Australia won the first Test by 251 runs in Birmingham, in which Smith scored twin centuries and proved to be the difference between the arch-rivals.

Kountouris added that the decision on when Smith was able to return would be made exclusively by team doctor Richard Saw, who would follow the Cricket Australia protocols. I just jumped the gun a bit on the questions. "I feel like I'm enclosed and not overly comfortable", he was recently quoted as saying.

"Perhaps try in the nets and see if I can find a way to get comfortable with it".

Smith was allowed to be substituted for the second innings owing to new rules brought in by the International Cricket Council this month to allow replacements for players suffering concussion.

On being asked whether delayed concussions are common, the manager said that about 30 per cent of concussions are delayed.

It's been a really bad week for Windows updates
This can be fixed, and Microsoft has reported that they're on the case - but again, no exact timing was promised for release. This new set of updates include updates for version 1809, 1709, 1703, 1607, and the original version of Windows 10.

"The reality is only about one in five or six head impacts end up in concussion", Kountouris said at a press conference in Australia on Monday.

"You look at the game, only Steve developed a concussion".

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of day five, Archer said: "I don't know what I was thinking at the time". "Everything he (Saw) did was according to the protocol", Kountouris said.

"Our doctor is an expert in his field, he's trained to pick up even the minor signs of concussion".

The immediate assessment can take place on the field, but a full test must take place in a quiet environment such as the dressing room.

"Marnus [Labuschagne] came in and batted as well as anyone did in the Test match, so we've got him up our sleeves", Paine told the BBC.

Tiger Woods fails to qualify for PGA season-end event
Hideki Matsuyama took the 36-hole lead with a 63 until falling back with a 73. "It all worked out great - except my score". Woods tied for 10th at the World Golf Championships Mexico Championship before beginning his major championship circuit.

After winning the first Test, Australia now holds a 1-0 lead in the series.
