Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy financier accused of sex trafficking, was found unresponsive in his jail cell by an apparent suicide at approximately 6:30 a.m. Saturday, the Federal Bureau of Prisons said in a statement.
The documents - among the most expansive sets of materials publicly disclosed in the 13 years since Mr. Epstein was first charged with sex crimes - include depositions, police incident reports, photographs, receipts, flight logs and even a memoir written by a woman who says she was a sex-trafficking victim of Mr. Epstein and his acquaintances.
The files were unsealed on Friday as part of an ongoing lawsuit filed by Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre against the businessman's ex-girlfriend and so-called "madam", Ghislaine Maxwell.
In a deposition included in the newly released papers, Giuffre said that her father, who worked at Mar-a-Lago as a maintenance manager, got her a job there in summer 2000 as a locker room attendant at the club's spa when she was 16.
Giuffre claimed she was trafficked for sex in New York, Palm Beach, New Mexico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and on Epstein's private jet, known as the "Lolita Express". She alleged she was also instructed by Epstein and Maxwell to have sex with Epstein's friends. The 66-year-old has pleaded not guilty.
