Since the Herald published "Perversion of Justice" in November 2018, a federal judge ruled the non-prosecution agreement brokered by then South Florida U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta was illegal, Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges in NY state, Acosta resigned as U.S. Secretary of Labor, and Epstein killed himself in his Manhattan jail cell.

Epstein had been jailed since early July, when he pleaded not guilty to charges by NY federal prosecutors after an indictment accused him of sex trafficking dozens of underage girls, some as young as 14 years old.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating Epstein's time spent in work release under the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. "In addition to the FBI's investigation, I have consulted with the Inspector General who is opening an investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Epstein's death".

"Breathless reporters excavating every corner of Mr. Epstein's life to pile on, tear him down and kick him at his lowest - while still presumed innocent, before he'd had his day in court", he said.

He was being held on federal sex trafficking charges and was facing up to 45 years in prison.

Mr. Epstein hanged himself and his body was found this morning at Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan at roughly 7:30.

Lawyer Alan Dershowitz and Britain's Prince Andrew were among those whose names officially surfaced Friday after a trove of documents were released in a case with strong ties to disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

He was arrested on 6 July after landing in New Jersey on his private jet.

In documents unsealed on Friday by federal prosecutors in NY, including affidavits and depositions of key witnesses in a lawsuit that Giuffre filed against Epstein and his associate, Giuffre alleged that she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew in three separate locations. He was arrested again in 2019 and charged with sex trafficking minors.

Brad Edwards, a Florida lawyer for almost two dozen other accusers, said that "this is not the ending anyone was looking for". He had pleaded not guilty.

An investigative journalist said that Clinton was on Epstein's plane 27 times, citing flight logs.

He followed up with a statement saying Giuffre "invented the false accusation against me only in 2014, when her lawyers "pressured" her to do so for financial reasons".

"We will continue to fight tirelessly on their behalf not only to seek justice, but also to ensure that all of the facts of his monstrous crimes become known to the world", he said. She said "the reckoning of accountability begun by the voices of courageous and truthful victims should not end" with Epstein's death. The district attorney in the case, Alex Acosta, has been accused by the Miami Herald of giving Epstein a light sentence. "These victims deserved to face their serial abuser in court", he said in a statement.
