The new Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch comes with improved heart-rate sensor, built-in Global Positioning System, activity tracker, NFC (Google Pay), Bluetooth 4.2, fast charging technology up to 80% charge in an hour and more.
With its new smartwatch, Fossil is giving us what we want: Longer battery life, more memory for improved performance, and better integration with the iPhone. Today, the watchmaker announced a fifth generation device that's powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform and is able to last for days on a charge, depending on what functionality you're willing to give up in exchange for more battery life.
The latest Fossil Smartwatch will come with total four different types of Battery Management modes.

The smartwatches pack 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. Some watches from other brands already offer this, but where the Fossil Gen 5 range really jumps ahead is in its ability for iPhone users to also take tethered calls from their watch. You can also choose to just use your smartwatch as normal in Daily Mode, though that will probably only get you about a day's worth of use on a single charge. Switch to Extended, and the always-on screen is switched off, plus the Bluetooth connection is tweaked - you still get notifications and health data will sync, but perhaps not instantly.
The new speaker also means you can take calls on your smartwatch. Additionally, iPhone owners will also be able to hear Google Assistant, use Google Translate, and play third-party music on the watch too. Oh, and there's 8GB of storage for apps and media, or about twice what you'll find in previous watches.
Google has yet to release a Wear OS smartwatch, despite acquiring technology from Fossil that includes an unreleased device. Some of that goes to pre-installed apps, including Cardiogram, Spotify, and Noonlight.

Gen 5 will come in six colorways combining black, smoke, and rose gold and will have a 44mm case size with interchangeable strap options. (Technically 5 ATM is what you're looking for if you want to hop in the pool, but 3 ATM should be fine for showers, dishes, and other mostly wet activities.) For sensors, you get the usual suspects: NFC, heart rate, altimeter, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, microphone, and built-in Global Positioning System.
Smartwatch maker Fossil Group might just be trying to edge out Apple's massive investment in smartwatches like the Apple Watch.
