"Five-seven Pakistani army regulars/terrorists eliminated; their bodies are lying on the LoC, not retrieved yet due to heavy firing", the statement released by the army read. While two militants were killed in Sopore township of Baramulla district of north Kashmir, two others were killed in Shopian district of south Kashmir in an operation which began on Friday, a police official said.

Earlier on Sunday, the Indian Army informed the Pakistani Army that it can approach with white flags and take back the bodies of five members of its Border Action Team, usually comprising army regulars and terrorists, who were killed while they were trying to cross the LoC into India and ambush Indian troops on patrol.

India has deployed at least 10,000 troops there in recent days, with media reports of a further 25,000 ordered to Kashmir.

Last month, Trump had made a stunning claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked him to mediate on the vexed issue during their meeting in Japan, evoking a sharp reaction from India which denied Modi making any such request.

Two militants accused of staging attacks on Indian government forces were also killed in a gun battle, according to police. In the wake of the security threat, more forces have been brought to the Valley.

But Mohammad Nasim opted to shift his family from Chakoti village to a safer place. "Pakistani Army is yet to respond".

Notably, fresh intelligence inputs have warned to increased terror activities and infiltration bid by Pakistan-based terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
